Kitwe is located in the Copperbelt Province, approximately 150 kilometers northwest of the capital city of Lusaka. It is Zambia’s industrial hub due to its rich copper deposits and its proximity to the Kafue River. Today Kitwe has a population of just over 400,000 residents with an ex-pat community also present due to work in several industries that include mining, manufacturing, and construction.
The weather in Kitwe in summer is warm to hot, with lows of 23°C and highs around 35 °C. Winter is slightly cooler but still warm with average highs in the mid-20s and rains start between April and May every year.
