Santiago is located in the Central Region of Chile, which is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, and by Argentina to the east. Santiago is Chile’s capital city and its largest city. It was founded in 1541 by conqueror Pedro de Valdivia as Estado de Santiago del Nuevo Extremo.
