Ruhengeri is located at the edge of the Rwenzori Mountains and the Virunga volcanic range in Kivu province, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It is also considered to be an important city in Rwanda. Ruhengeri is more popular as a tourist destination because it has beautiful sceneries that tourists like to visit. It includes the Nyungwe Forest, Visoke Volcano, Nyanza Lac, and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks.
The weather in Ruhengeri in summer is very hot with average temperatures of between 25 and 30 °C. The temperature drops a bit during the months of December and February, but it still remains high with an average temperature of between 23 and 26 °C.
Ruhengeri is the capital city of Rwanda’s Northern Province. The Kivu International Airport, commonly called Musanze airport, which serves Ruhengeri opened in 1960 and was a gateway to the rebel-controlled areas during the Rwandan Civil War.
