Pakse is located in Southern Laos and is both a province and an administrative region of the country. Pakse is home to about 100,000 people who speak Lao of which only 50% are ethnically Lao. The other half are Khmer Krom or Vietnamese migrants who have moved to Pakse in search of work.
The weather in Pakse in summer is hot and humid with average temperatures rising to about 32 – 36 °C. April, May, November, and December are the hottest months of the year in Pakse while July and August are usually rather cool with an average temperature of about 20 °C. During winter time Pakse may be affected by heavy rainfall originating from the South China Sea.
Pakse is the capital of Champasak Province in southern Laos. There are no regular commercial flights to Pakse, but many travelers choose to charter jets and fly privately. These jets are significantly more expensive than flying on a scheduled flight.
