The Metro series has become one of the most popular 19 seat commuters despite a slow start to sales in the early 1970s. The design process started as an upgrade from Swearingen’s Merlin I executive transport and its turboprop powered II and III models, which were eventually used as basis for their new commuter airliner that would be called “Metro.”
The first flight occurred on August 26 1969 with production starting soon after. With similar appearances but upgraded features such as increased fuel capacity, more powerful engines; there was also roomy passenger cabin space – giving passengers both comfort while on board or if they need to disembark quickly due to sudden changes in weather conditions!
