The MD-83, a medium haul passenger aircraft developed by the American company McDonnell Douglas in 1983. The new version is more fuel efficient and has an increased takeoff weight of 67.8 tons that required strengthening the wing and fuselage skin with larger landing gear to compensate for heavier loads on take offs and landings as well as installing longitudinal beams along cabin flooring to support greater weight distribution throughout its structure while also carrying up to 166 passengers (more than any other plane around).
