The 737-500 was the missing link. It filled a crucial gap in Southwest’s fleet, between the two planes that dominated its domestic market -the 737-200 and 757s. The plane had some of same direct appeal to passengers as it predecessor while also incorporating all modern amenities for comfort on long flights, like more space overhead bins for carryon luggage and legroom from row 25 onward!
